In CYD, our values guide how we organize, advocate, and show up for our community. We believe democracy works best when everyone has a voice and the power to shape the future they want to live in.
COMMUNITY FIRST
We believe real change starts at the local level. Our work is rooted in Chattanooga and the Tennessee Valley, centered on listening to our neighbors, supporting one another, and building collective power. We organize with our community, not around it.
YOUTH EMPOWERMENT
Young people are not the future of politics, we are the present. We invest in students and young professionals by creating pathways to leadership, civic engagement, and public service. We believe in meeting young people where they are and giving them the tools to lead.
EQUITY AND JUSTICE
We are committed to a more just and inclusive society. That means advocating for policies and leaders who address systemic inequities and expand opportunity for historically marginalized communities. Equity is not optional, it is essential.
HOLDING LEADERSHIP ACCOUNTABLE
We believe values must be backed by action. We hold leaders accountable and expect transparency, integrity, and follow through from those who seek to represent our community. Our advocacy is rooted in responsibility to the people we serve.
CIVIC ENGAGEMENT
Democracy requires participation. We work to increase voter education, turnout, and political involvement among young people across Hamilton County. From elections to everyday advocacy, we believe informed and engaged communities create lasting change.
HOPE
We organize because we believe in a better future for Chattanooga and Tennessee. Our work is driven by optimism, resilience, and the belief that progress is possible when people come together with purpose.
COLLABORATION
Progress happens when we work together. We partner with candidates, campaigns, student organizations, and local Democratic groups to amplify impact and share resources. We believe coalition building is how movements grow stronger.
